Hello Postcard Friends –
Located at Promontory Summit, Utah, the Historical National Site commemorates the completion of the 1,912-mile Transcontinental Railroad in 1869 which linked the eastern and western rail networks of the United States.
To commemorate this historic event, the Post Office is issuing a 150th-anniversary stamp set on May 10, 2019. The three-piece set features the Central Pacific’s Jupiter and the Union Pacific’s No. 119 steam locomotives, plus a golden spike stamp.
To celebrate this historic occasion, we’ve updated our Transcontinental Railroad Postcard to include a “150th-Anniversary” banner. We will make this postcard available throughout 2019.
BTW – a special shoutout to long-time postcard and stamp enthusiast Trevor for bringing the 150th anniversary to our attention. Thanks, Trevor for your ongoing contributions and ideas that benefit the Postcrossing community!
Until next week –
The Arndt Family
